1967: Olivia and Arthur Dodge purchased and donated land to form The Thomas Irvine Dodge Nature Center. Their hope was to “save the land and use it to teach children to love nature and become environmental stewards.”
Now: 135 acres at the main property have been transformed into a diverse habitat of wetlands, prairie and woodlands; including a sustainable farm, teaching facilities, apiary, sugar shack gardens and preschool.
1969: The first nature based curriculum was developed for
K-8th graders.
Now: Over 40 nature and agricultural programs for K-8th graders are offered.
