2000: The after-school program, Kids Discovering Science was developed in response to a community need.
Now: Young Explorers is an after-school program for K-4th graders, DNC Adventures is for grades 5-6, and the Junior Naturalist program (started in 1975) is still offered for 7- 8th graders.
2001: Two $1M endowed chairs were established: the Peterson Head Naturalist, and the Price Farm Director.These Funds will provide income to support these key positions forever.
Now: The third chair, for the Volunteer Coordinator, was completed this year with plans to work on the 5 remaining position chairs.
2002: Olivia Dodge resigned from the board of directors leaving the organization in capable hands of stewards with a passion for the mission of DNC.
Now: As DNC becomes a stronger and more independent non-profit organization, there is a greater need to succeed Mrs. Dodge’s financial support.
2002: The new Voight Raptor mews was completed and became home to a red-tailed hawk, American Kestrel and American Bald Eagle.
Now: It now houses an American Bald Eagle, a barred owl and a screech owl.
2006: A new kiosk in English and Spanish was installed at the main entrance.
Now: Dodge is embracing outreach programs to include more diversity.
