Internships at Dodge Nature Center

The Dodge Nature Center is a non-profit organization operating a 300 acre nature preserve to provides environmental education and outdoor experiences to diverse audiences. Part-time and full-time seasonal internships (10-12+ weeks in duration) are available in the following areas:

Environmental Education.Naturalist interns receive training to teach environmental education classes to students and visitors, prepare educational curriculum, provide animal care to herptile collection and raptors, and assist seasonally with crops, bee keeping, maple syruping, and taxidermy. Available all four seasons.

Preschool Education. Nature preschool interns gain relevant, hands-on experience in a nature-based preschool by assisting in the planning and presentation of a variety of activities. Available all four seasons.

Non-profit Management.: Non-profit management interns help create various marketing and public relations materials, assist with the coordination of special events, and assist in all aspects of fundraising. Available all four seasons.

Agriculture/Horticulture. Farm interns gain experience in sustainable agriculture and horticulture. They assist with the daily care of a diverse farm animal population, with the preparation of bedding plants, and with the planting, care, and harvest of field crops. Additionally, they teach agricultural education programs to young children, work in the Nature center’s gardens and assist in apiary care and maintenance. Available spring, summer, or fall.

Natural Resources Management and Restoration. Restoration interns assist with the removal of invasive plant species, surveying and photomonitoring of study plots, conducting prescribed burns, native seed collection and planting, and various other land management activities. Available spring, summer, or fall.

Benefits include orientation, training, and evaluation by professional staff; relevant, hands-on experience; academic credit (through a coordinating institution) and a $125 weekly stipend.
