Position Description

Dodge Nature Center is a nonprofit organization operating a 460+ acre nature preserve in West St. Paul, Mendota Heights and Cottage Grove, MN. We provide environmental and agricultural education experiences for thousands of people each year through our school programs and public events. Working for Dodge Nature Center will provide you with opportunities to work with people of all ages and to present an array of natural history, environmental and agricultural topics.


– Teach natural history, environmental, and agricultural education programs to children, families, and adults, both on and offsite
– Develop and lead day camps for children
– Develop and present educational public programs
– Share responsibility for animal care of raptors, reptiles and amphibians
– Lead orientation/training sessions for seasonal staff and interns
– Participate in seasonal special events and restoration programs
– Support marketing and budgeting goals


– Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or education
– Five or more years’ experience teaching environmental education
– Broad range of knowledge in environmental, natural history and agricultural areas
– Leadership experience
– Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite
– Work outdoors year-round in all weather with the stamina to traverse uneven terrain on long hikes
– Lift and carry loads up to 40 pounds

Skills & Abilities
– Effective teaching skills for audiences from preschool through adults and from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds
– Initiative to create and maintain high quality environmental education programs
– Writing skills for developing curriculum, lesson plans, and reports
– Time management skills and ability to manage a teaching role as well as additional responsibilities
– Self-motivated, flexible and enthusiastic
– Fluency in a second language preferred
