Position Description
Dodge Nature Center and Preschool is a nonprofit organization providing quality environmental education programs on its 460+ acres of greenspace in West St. Paul, Mendota Heights, and Cottage Grove. Dodge has a nature-based preschool, Dodge Nature Preschool, on the Main Property in West St. Paul.
Dodge is seeking a Seasonal Grounds Crew member to join our Buildings and Grounds team. This position is responsible for carrying out daily assignments related to care of buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment. They will support maintenance and care at both our Main Property (West St. Paul) and Shepard Farm Property (Cottage Grove).
Job Functions and Key Responsibilities
Buildings and Grounds Maintenance
- Perform general building maintenance which can include cleaning, changing light bulbs, painting, light plumbing, and other related maintenance activities.
- Assist in mowing, weed whipping, and grounds maintenance to keep all grounds and trails groomed and to make the site presentable.
- In winter months, carry out snow plowing, snow blowing, shoveling, and sanding of driveway and walkways.
- Perform a variety of carpentry-related projects along with general plumbing and electrical work.
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
- Perform assigned tasks related to the cleaning and care of all vehicles and equipment.
Supervision
- Supervise volunteers, Dakota County Service workers, and/or youth job skill training groups.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to work as both part of a team and independently
- Commitment to Dodge Nature Center’s mission
- Some evenings and weekends may be required
- Physical Requirements: Ability to preform tasks that involve manual labor, including lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds, and bending. Ability to traverse uneven terrain and spend up to six hours per day outside in inclement weather.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating a tractor, chainsaw, woodchipper, Bobcat, zero-turn lawnmower, snow blower, snowplow, and other related equipment.
- Be a team player with willingness to help other departments as needed. This person should have the ability to supervise volunteers and other assigned labor sources.
